About this course

Who should take this course?

This course is very helpful if you are sitting the MOrth exam and you are not a UK trainee.

If you haven't prepared for the Communication Skills station yet, you can take this quick course just a few days before your Part B MOrth exam.

What will this course provide?

This course is composed of two parts: Communication Skills and UK Consent.

In addition to Communication Skills training and preparation, this course will help you understand how to take informed consent as per UK regulations.

It will provide notes, resources, and practice tests and scenarios, and will help you understand what is expected from you in Component 3 (OSCE) of the Part B MOrth exam.

What is the Communication Skills's OSCE (Component 3?)

As stated by the RCSEd's website:

Component 3 is a one-hour Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) over 4 stations, on aspects of communication relating to orthodontic treatment.

The Communication OSCE -as I would like to call it- is an assessment of a candidate’s ability to communicate aspects of orthodontic care and management to a simulated patient or parent as specified in the Learning Outcomes.

Consent is so important for 2 components of the MOrth :

  1. The written MCQs exam of the RCS Edinburgh (Part A MOrth)
  2. Communication Skills in the OSCE component (Part B MOrth/Component 3)

When you understand consent you will know from whom you should take it, (the child or his parent).

You will also know what is expected from you in various scenarios of the Communication Skills OSCE questions, such as if the child came alone in the scenario, or if the child refused treatment.
